What does hibachi mean?

The hibachi (鐏墷 "fire bowl"?) is a traditional Japanese heating device. It consists of a round, cylindrical or a box-shaped open-topped container, made from or lined with a heatproof material and designed to hold burning charcoal.

In North America, the term "hibachi" is used to refer to a small cooking stove heated by charcoal (actually called shichirin in Japanese), or to an iron hot plate (teppan) used in Teppanyaki restaurants. What does hibachi mean?
Hibachi is a method od cooking in Japanese cuisine. It usually involves cooking on a very hot surface with a small amount of oil. You can do this with chicken, steak, or seafood. The seasoning normally comes from the flavor of the way that it is grilled with some minor seasoning. Hibachi meat does normally have sauce on it because the flavor is all about the way it is cooked.
